Mr Scanning is a motorised hand-held gold scanning pistol available from maxFynd. Using it is straightforward. You can use it in your hand, on the ground or in your vehicle.

When activated using the switch under the unit (rear right-hand side) it will begin to seek gold once you either walk in front of it, wave your hand in front of it or simply move it around.

Use the UV angle to test for good solar conditions. If there is too much radiation you will get inaccuracies in the same way satellites are affected by solar winds. Once the free swinging hand-held UV rod is pointing due West (exactly) you may commence.

Begin by placing it on the ground and slide the start switch. You will notice it will scan from right to left and back and stop at a point.

Place a flag in front of the unit in a line with the centre of the nose and the indicated target. Do this again and mark with another flag. Try a third time. If it stops at three different points (the flags will tell you), then there is no gold worth finding there.

If it shows 2 or more stops that are indicating the same direction, you may be in luck. Try the same from another point or angle, seeking to pinpoint the direction of the gold ie. where the unit is pointing when it stops. In some areas, you can use the detachable laser-sight for this. Test with UV angle again. If still West, the scan will be accurate. Sometimes vehicles will pass over gold reefs and null them for a time. Don't dismiss an area if it shows no indication and you are close to a road.

Walk along the line from the nose until using the UV angle when you get a swing. This is the target. You can determine depth and type of gold here (see instructions on the CD).

If you are in a gold-free area then the unit will not show a consistent direction at the point of rest.

Hand-held use is harder and should be left for when you are confident using it on the ground. Attaching it say upside down to a vehicle mirror is the next step after hand-held use. Exercise extreme care since many accidents are caused by driver distraction.

Mr Scanning takes three standard 1.5v cells or rechargeable batteries. Be careful transporting it as it is hinged plastic in construction to an extent. Always return it to it's case after or during use.
