Laser arrays are the flavor of the month. The Gravitational Wave discovery was made using them.

maxFynd has developed a similar technique to detection of gold reefs.

It uses solar flux to determine whether the path of the laser passes over gold occurrences. If it does the laser dot will rise or fall over time, conversely over no gold there will be no movement. There is a simple 'ground balance ' & after that you are set.

The process takes an hour or so but this time is fine if you are for example working for a geological company and wishing to confirm a lode or summing up an area for subsurface gold.
